In 1780 AD, Shivnarayan, the then king of Chandradwip Pargana, dug a large lake at Madhabpasha to alleviate the water crisis of the locals. The lake was named Durgasagar after his mother Durga Devi. The district administration is carrying out the maintenance of Durgasagar instead of the Department of Archaeological Preservation. On the three sides of Durgasagar, in the middle of Ghatla and Dighi, there is a island on 60 percent of the land.

Rani Durgavati, the Prajabatsal wife of King Shiva Narayan of the dynasty, is still immortal after digging a huge lake in 1780 AD. This lake is known as "Durga Sagar" after her. The sea means its vastness. There is no such big lake in Barishal division. It is now a beautiful place for tourists and nature lovers. A wide ghat of huge cement, a beautiful island in the middle of the lake, where in winter the guest birds buzzing. This area is a bird sanctuary. The narrow road by the lake, the occasional sitting bench, the variety of dense green trees - will give you indescribable peace. You can also have a picnic here if you wish. Those who come to Barishal, do not forget to see this Durga Sagar. Fishermen can also relax here - for giant fishing.
